“Example: Dad Benson (slowing down car to ask pedestrian for directions): “Excuse me, chief, could you tell me where…”.”
haha – i like that.
is it common for NYers of arab decent to use “boss” instead of “chief”? i’ve definitely been called “boss” by more than a few arab dudes that i would encounter on a daily basis (local business owners)
When I hear news of Watson winning again, I think of either Kasparov or Fischer (think it was Fischer) who said if chess comes down to just total memorization, it loses its game-iness. I’ve been trying to find an accessible book on chess openings to improve my game, and to memorize a few dozen or so. It’s hard.

“Does he say electrizzzzzzzity?”
Of course.
Another old-time NY habit he has (which is almost all but forgotten): he calls a person he meets “chief”.
