Arkady, I think you asking a man to share is less dangerous. Seems the odds of a crazy person trying to squeeze into your cab is greater than the odds of you happening to ask to share a cab with someone who turns out to be crazy.

yeah – back when i hung out in the LES frequently but lived in WB, people would frequently congregate on the corner of Delancey and Essex trying to get a cab across the bridge.
during inclement weather i’d try to carpool with strangers (who didn’t seem threatening) – as cabs weren’t plentiful.

Biff, over Christmas when my boss couldn’t get back into any NY airports, he shared a car from Chicago to NYC with a stranger.
The way taxis work in Seoul late at night is that they can pick up additional people along the way…very bizarre system.
