  1. LOL!!!

“When will the NYC subway stations ever be redone?

    ——————————————————————————–

I try to avoid using the subway, but I used it today and wow the stations look so nasty and run-down compared to ones in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore even London. For all New York’s greatness, the subway stations are anything but that. The city should be ashamed of itself!

The stations look so dark and grimy, in Asia it’s so bright! And clean! And some brown liquid dripped from the ceiling onto my $11,000 Gucci coat and I was so disgusted.

Today reminded me of why I never go down there and as a concerned New Yorker I ask, will the stations ever be completely redone and modernized?”

  2. benson — that’s really what it is about for me, here. Interesting neighborhoods, walking, diffferent cultures, lots of cultural energy, all the serendipity that comes with all that contact. Just doesn’t happen in a car culture. Living it and experiencing it as a tourist one week a year are two different things. But, as arkady said, just a matter of taste and preference. Nothing to fight about.

hey dona, your friend was wrong cuz the moonfaces keep coming to replace them!

Yes, this person was very adamant at the time as well, telling me that if I bought this building, I would lose all my equity and be trapped in the building for my whole life. I DID ask him but was not prepared for that kind of response, which I thought was a little screwy. In other things, he is a pretty reasonable and intelligent person.

  4. BHS: I don’t see any demographic issues having a huge impact on NY real estate prices, because NY is such a place that so many people from around the US and the world want to live or own property in.

That is what I told him.

  5. Arkady, I am not sure that I understand your point. Do you mean that some people’s preferred locations are simply a matter of taste, while the matter of having a particular hero is a reflection of profound values? Or that everything is viewed as taste and that there is no recognition of the fact that there are profound differences in value systems?

It is not clear to me what point you are trying to make.

I always felt that it was too-high RE prices that could crash the market. If it becomes impossible for the young to come here and refresh the creative aspects of NYC, that will be the end of it.

ANyway in spite of what I said above a nice coop in a Manhattan full service building has to be the best place in the world to spend one’s final years.
