  2. I agree with dona that the OT is a difficult format to debate anything, but I still enjoy participating in the debates from time to time.
Nothing on the OT has ever persuaded me to change an opinion, though. Seeing different opinions tends to reinforce my own.

  3. “Denton is saying he wrongly accused you of spelling Colombian incorrectly. Capeesh?”

Biff, thanks. I thought it was another denton dig – not that there’s anything wrong with that, just that I didn’t get it!

(Oh, and m4l, rest assured my threat to kill Biff was not in his Presidential capacity but in his capacity as my wingman (pun intended).)

  4. donatella,
    For my part,
I think you present a very clear and thoughtful evaluation of why individuals with opposing views often can’t find common ground on heavy subjects on the OT.
At the very least though, they get a quick sketch of the other person’s mindset.
    Sometimes that’s a start.

  5. Bxgrl, what I am going to say here is in the spirit of seriousness I was talking about.

I am going to translate something that Denton said in response to what you said earlier:

By bxgrl on February 4, 2011 2:16 PM

I agree, cobble. I doubt Chanel was unaware of what she was doing- even going so far as to use the Aryan laws to take businesses from Jewish owners.Anyone who possibly believed this was ok on any level is really not a human being.

Look…please don’t get pissed because I am not saying this to piss you off, but Denton makes THIS point:

“Be careful else you too will prove you are not a human (wasn’t that the excuse Hitler used, btw?) And here it rears its head on the OT. ”

Bxgrl: Try reading what is actually written. And i really don’t get your problem here. What the hell are you even talking about? Are you so thin-skinned no one is allowed to add something to what you said? Are you hallucinating things I never wrote? Yo must be, unless you can quote me. If you can’t, stfu.

If I were to step back, I might say that Denton just said that to strip anyone of their humanity, even a criminal, even a person who has done an evil thing, who thinks mistakenly, is amoral or has committed crimes is dangerous business. When we strip someone of their humanity, it says that they cannot change, they cannot improve, they cannot be forgiven, they cannot be transformed.
Also once stripped of their humanity, we can do anything to them. We share with every person on earth a common humanity no matter how flawed and screwed up. And for that reason, we need to be careful.

There. That was a serious point. Not meant to hurt you. But to point out something serious. Because it is important. You are important. We are important.
