  1. I love Chagall too- i think part of the problem for many people is that his work became so commercialized, like Picasso’s peace dove. After awhile the image becomes o cheapened in the public mind you forget to actually look at the beauty of it. But whenever I take another look, especially within the whole body of his work, I fall in love with it again.

Similar thing with Picasso- it took seeing Guernica in person to remind me of the master Picasso really was, and not the creator of greeting card designs..

  2. jester,

I know Currin has been labeled a sort of enfant terrible for his generous depiction of the female form. I like his works too.

You know what gets me? this recent debate on whether or not Norman Rockwell is a “true” artist.
Who doesn’t recognize his works and admire many of them?
He made his living as an illustrator but his vision is certainly full of artistic merit in my opinion.

  3. quite a few nice looking waiters, etc in CR….but didn’t go into san jose/gay bars. Really didn’t see many gay tourists where we were.
The owner of the hotel in monteverde was canadian. but a nice guy.

  4. was impressed by the country. Each little village even on dirt roads had recycling bins, a school and health clinic and hardly anyone smoked cigs,
People were very nice, friendly and spoke english. Very little litter on roads. Nice feeling about the place. Probably kinda progressive nation.
