“The discussion above is kind of silly. Art is undeniably subjective. One can’t make another person appreciate it nor can one convince an art lover that most art sucks. One likes what one likes.”
Yes, but I think lech is just shining us all on. I bet there is at least one piece of art hanging on the wall at his firm, or in his home that he likes.
“What do you look at and see as beautiful? Women? Nature? Buildings? What draws you in and makes you think? Besides dollar signs and the law.”
Who ever said I get drawn in by dollar signs and the law? That’s just not accurate.
The only things I can thing of that really get my blood flowing…. I guess the possibilty of truly fundamental change in the architecture of human society, and sex, and music that just grabs me for whatever reason, and when I have been studying something for a while and suddenly “get” it by seeing the basic spatial relationship in my head. Other than that now that I think of it I’m mostly calibrating my reactions to things by what I perceive others to expect my reaction to be.

Scale, shapes, perspective, depth of field, all math. Whether you use a ruler or not.

Art, math and music are all undeniably linked. Perhaps not always obviously, but they are.

well. lech- I actually do get excited about spatial/numerical relationships because I see a certain artistry in them.
Can’t beleive I forgot Bosch either! And the Pre-Raphaelites- although they’ve been overcommercialized too. But still love Burne-Jones.
And I agree, cobble, regarding the art market.
