  1. In the book “Hannibal,” barney, who was the orderly on duty when Hannibal was incarcerated in the baltimore assylum, tells us all about his discussions with Dr Lecter about Vermeer. At the end of the book, we hear barney telling us about visiting a Vermer in Buenos Aires and seeing Dr Lecter there in hiding with Clarice whom he has drugged to induce her to remain with him. barney was on a quest to see every vermeer in the world. The book has a different ending than the movie.

  2. As for Porter – all depends how much you hate Pearson for the return journey!
You can arrive at the Island 1 hour before your flight & get on comfortably, vs long lines and military style security @ Pearson.

  3. Ok, I’ve decided I’ll suffer the long waits at Pearson Airport in Toronto and not risk long cab rides to Newark. The Champs don’t do well in taxis. I travel with a bunch of car sickness bags when I’m with them and, more often than not, I have to use them.

  4. “holy shit – the pussycat lounge closed”

No freakin way! You mean the one down in FiDi next to Thunderbird Lingerie a couple of blocks from ground zero? The super sketchy strip club where I once saw a stripper who had a tampon string sticking out of her thong? The one that’s a block from this place where namor rented a room for a year or so until he clued into the fact that he was basically living in a brothel run by his nice old Dutch landlady?

  5. Depends what time of day you leave. When I get a cab from BK to EWR it’s usually about 4.45am on a Monday, so fine to go through Manhattan as there’s no traffic.

Cheapest way to get to EWR is subway to Penn & then train (train is $12.50 one way). I do that if I am coming or going at a normal person time of day.

  6. About Vermeers in NYC: There is a 1990 (imho, bad) movie called “All the Vermeers in New York”. There is a precienct scene in the movie where the guy’s date takes him to the top of the WTC towers. He hates it, and he describes what it looks like from the top – looking at the tiny figures on the ground and the things that could happen to them. His description is much like what DID happen in 2001. Oh, about the Vermeers, I think at the time of the movie, 1990, there were 5 Vermeers at the Metropolitan, and 2 at the Frick.
