  1. Kens, reason is super duper easy to understand. China is purposely lax on trademark, patent, etc enforcement cause they know the good stuff is stuff owned, invented by others. So fastest way domestic firms can ramp up and catch up is to blatantly copy, steal, etc. and in that environment, the best & brightest minds leave the country to go to places where such intellectual property would be protected and can profit hugely of it (hence why US gets tons of these talent). Once the domestic firms demonstrate to Chinese gov they’ve grown up, patent/trademark laws would be enforced tightly (cause no their own firms are cranking out stuff left & right hence need protection).

  2. Oh and if any of the PLUSAs need good hookups for ATT cellphones, a good friend of mine own an ATT store so feel free to email me in private (he also owns a MetroPCS store but no one cares about that service on this blog).

  3. Benson and Donatella,

Too bad I couldn’t join you guys on south brooklyn tour. Did Benson chauffer you through Ocean PKWY past my building by any chance?

Also missed yesterday’s Asian inventions discussion. My 5 cents is that if Asians could be creative enough society, I wouldn’t have a job in US right now. We have been producing stuff there for over 30 years (They’re great at that) but all of the design, development and marketing is done here since they just can’t get the talent there that they do here. Big problem in pretty much all innovative products. I am kinda glad that’s the case since it keeps most of the value of the product in US (not going to go into the economics as I don’t have much time for it today).

  4. LOl i just saw this posted on citydata…in a thread about racial tension and fedders buildingsx

“I think in some areas where whites and Asians live side by side, there’s a difference of opinion where new construction is concerned. Some whites don’t understand why Asians are okay with the look of plain boxy buildings with wall-thru air conditioners (beige-colored cheap new construction, usually with Fedders air conditioners). The whites think these beige buildings look oppressive and consider the Fedders logo annoying (because each unit has the logo, making the effect Fedders,Fedders,Fedders,Fedders,Fedders – annoying), while the Asians think as long as you can live in them what’s the problem? So in this example it’s like a conflict of taste, a conflict of aesthetics – which is like warming marshmallows over a campfire when compared to racial tension. In other words, it’s not much of an issue in the grand scheme of things, but there are differences to take note of, this being one of them. JMO.”
