  1. My ex Chinese bf’s parents moved to the Boston area about 12 years ago from Hong Kong. they would only buy a brand new house as anything else had too many “ghosts” and they would only pay cash since, if there’s a mortgage, you don’t own it.

  2. Kens;

    Yup, we went up Ocean Parkway. I didn’t point out your building. I was too busy pointing out the “swanky” white brick apartment building across the street. You know the one I mean? It looks like it belongs in Miami Beach.

    When Montrose saw it, an image of Frank Sinatra pouring a scotch came into her mind.

  3. rob, I think the Asian community is being more pragmatic. As the article says, they see it as a place to live, shelter being more important than aesthetics. They have a point.

    My biggest objection to them is not that they are ugly, but in poorer neighborhoods they are often poorly designed and cheaply constructed. I have a friend who is a contractor and most of her work is repairing new “fedders” construction.

    My wife had been bugging me for quite a while that I didn’t have a photo of her in my office. So, over the Christmas holiday, I put it on the top of my “miscellaneous things to do” list. I found a nice photo of her, blew it up to 5 x 7, and even bought a frame for it. I was going to put it in my briefcase to take to work, but it was already packed, and I didn’t want it to get crushed. So, I put it on the bottom of my closet, next to where I store my briefcase. I hadn’t had a chance to bring it to work yet. Yesterday, my wife discovers the picture on the bottom of my closet. She called me up, her feelings all hurt.

    Note to self: you blew it.

  5. I keep cracking myself up about an Amy Chua supernanny show. I’m picturing some beefy midwestern guy who likes football and porn watching Amy Chua yell at his moron 12 year son while he fucks up a violin.
