Barron’s has a comprehensive, well written article about how to invest in emerging markets. you should have AT LEAST 10% of your portfolio in Emerging Markets.

    Discuss.

Does it have to be Monday already?

I’m tired and sore after doing a 5 mile race in Central Park yesterday. Man, it was cold!

    Will read the article

The shootings in AZ have, for all intents & purposes, put an end to Sarah Palin’s political career. It was her “macaca” moment as the anti-Giffords political flyers that she distributed had a cross hair on them.

By CGar on January 10, 2011 9:01 AM

And all the politicos put on their somber faces and say “such a thing can never be allowed to happen again”, but, of course, it will, especially as gun laws across the country are being liberalized rather than tightened.

By BoerumHillScott on January 10, 2011 9:04 AM

Part of me is still hoping for Palin to make a strong showing in the 2012 primaries. Just think of the entertainment value.

The sane part of me agrees with DIBS.

And, people who knew the shooter are saying this was entirely predictable and that they expected this from him. But what can one really do if you think someone is capable of going postal based only on their strange behavior?

By denton on January 10, 2011 9:05 AM

Hey dibs, yeah, saw that. I believe it said 13% which is the amount of US Cap vs the world? And that applies to fixed income as well as equities.

So if you are 60% equities and 40% bonds, 10% of the equities AND 10% of bonds should be overseas.

Next time run faster, you’ll get warm.

I’ll read that Barron’s article, but I REALLY want to talk about Texas! That mecca of conservative fiscal policy.

By denton on January 10, 2011 9:09 AM

Speaking of Barrons, the below quote had me cracking up, since I hadn’t heard this before.

And this is in context with the move (again) by some asshole to redact the N word out of Huck Finn, and replace it with ‘Slave’, a move universally frowned upon by every Black intellectual I have read on the issue.

    Here goes…

“Mr. Boehner retained sufficient composure to begin his chamber’s reading aloud of the Constitution. In truth, the House chose to recite a redacted version of that historic document to recite, eliminating certain passages – like the reference to a slave being three-fifths of a person – in the interest of political correctness. It struck us as kind of like eliminating the ‘begets’ from the Old Testament. Forgive us for assuming that Republican dogma held that there could be no ad-hoc changes to the Constitution (except, it turns out, when expediency trumps principle).”

Remember, this is not Mother Jones or the Village Voice here, this is Barrons’ lead columnist.

Most of my body was quite warm during the race.
The 15 minutes between when I dropped my jacket off and when the race started were brutal. In addition, I did not think to wear gloves, so my hands were numb for an hour or two after the race was over.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would it again.

By daveinbedstuy on January 10, 2011 9:14 AM

Denton, I heard about the Huck Finn changes last week.

By denton on January 10, 2011 9:16 AM

BHS, try standing on the VB for two hours before the Marathon starts. Hah!

By denton on January 10, 2011 9:17 AM

yeah dibs but did you hear about the Constitutional changes anywhere? I didn’t. WSJ maybe?

By ishtar on January 10, 2011 9:19 AM

    Changing Huck Finn is ridiculous.

By daveinbedstuy on January 10, 2011 9:20 AM

Nowhere. I saw news clips of various people reading the Constitution but nowhere had I heard about the redacts.

By CGar on January 10, 2011 9:22 AM

Weekend Update on SNL covered the Constitutional redacts.

By BoerumHillScott on January 10, 2011 9:24 AM

I saw a number of references to the omissions in reading the Constitution, but most of them were from postings my liberal friends made on Facebook.

By denton on January 10, 2011 9:26 AM

hey dibs, on the MSFT kinect thing and call options, I’m wondering about another angle. Cuz we set up ours over the weekend and Mrs D was quite happy with it.

So I wanted to get a nice car racing and shooter game so I went to Gamestop Sunday. I ran into a guy just like me, around my age, who had just bought the setup for xmas and was complaining about how sore he was from doing the workouts. And he was also buying a couple of games.

So I’m thinking about who is really buying the kinect. Maybe a lot of them are people who didn;t really do a lot of gaming before but now that they have it will be in the market for more games.

I’m wondering if there are any publicly traded companies writing for the Xbox.

The US will soon be delivering some GBU-28 bunker busting bombs to Israel. This is a 5,000 pound bomb used for penetrating deeply buried facilities, like they have in Iran.

By daveinbedstuy on January 10, 2011 9:29 AM

Most of them write for XBox. We own TTWO.
