What used to freak me out and still feels very wierd is when Spanish speaking people call me Mommy. In Spanish, you can call somebody Mamita (I heard a guy call his daughter Mamita on the phone, Mommy) and it is no big deal. Like the Chinese call somebody Auntie or in Japanese, somebody might call me onesan (older sister) or okasan (aunt). But to have somebody call you Mommy in Spanish or in English from a Spanish speaking person feels highly wierd. At first I thought it was just a Caribbean thing but I have heard it from all Spanish speakers
“parents on the UES do not bring their screaming babies into bars, demand chicken nuggets at posh restaurants, and other low brow things a lot of brooklyn parents seem to do.”
rob, I think you were time travelling on the internet again.
DH, my friend, you in a bit of a mood there today? Swinging at every post!!
There’s also a kids’ tea time at St. Bartholomew’s church on the east side. Rich UES kids drinking tea. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
“no cameos of hot chicks in your pics if you’re looking to pick up chicks”
jessi, the only hot girl I have in any of my profile pics is CDog. 🙂

“ENY – am wondering if they are so gorgeous b/c now we are adding another culture (middle eastern)into their mix”
Sure, why not? I’m not trying to figure out how it happened…all I know is they LOOK GOOD!
“many women in DR have Arabic names or spellings of their names
like Ysira, or Yasmeen
can any of you smarties explain that one to me?”
Those aren’t necessarily arabic spellings. Many Spanish speaking people spell the names exactly as they’re pronounced in their language.
oh yeah, and entitled brat tea-time at Beymelman’s bar
