Also: when I went to college, I belonged to a fraternity that was half-comprised of guys from Brooklyn and the other half was from Queens. We actually used to make that distinction then, and there definitely was a subtle but real difference in their character. The guys from Queens were more laid-back, and we attributed it to their living in the “country”.
“When I was a kid, Queens was considered a step up from Brooklyn by many people. It was considered to be a perfect mix of the city and the suburbs.
Times and tastes change.”
I’m certainly not all about Queens,
but you will be hard pressed to find a nicer looking neighborhood than Old Forest Hills. Even the streets are private.
Douglaston as well, with it’s own LIRR stop and on the Long Island Sound, truly a perfect mix of city and suburb.
Queens has lots of great places to visit.
#1 favorite is Noguchi Museum
#2 – the Panorama Map of NYC in Queens Museum.
– Hall of Science – lots of fun.
– Flushing Meadow Park
– Museum of Moving Image
– PS 1
– Lemon Ice King of Corona – best ice in all of NYC.
There are great nabes to stroll thru
– Jackson Heights – large Indian/pakistani population with lots of fun shops to see.
– Flushing – There’s lots of history in Flushing with very old buildings 1600’s ie. Bowne House, Quaker Meeting House, etc.
– Forest Hills Gardens
– Douglaston
– Little neck
– Whitestone
– Malba
(many nabes with some of the most obscene looking houses. Lots of fun to look at and make fun of)
Etc. Etc. Etc.
“And, Legion, I don’t know that that list of Queens luminaries is going to persuade me otherwise.”
Ha ha,
alright, how about KISS, Louis Armstrong and The Ramones,
that’s gotta count for something.
word to the wise in BedStuy,
Do NOT leave your garbage out if it’s not exactly after 5:00PM the night before.
For some reason the Dept. of Sanitation loves to give tickets in BedStuy.
jessi, chat went fine. Short fortunately, since, as I may have mentioned, lol, I loathe talking on the phone. She prolly just wanted to make sure I didn’t sound like a psycho. Or like *rob*.
The mass animal death thing is getting pretty freaky.
Thousands of birds falling dead en masse in clusters around the globe.
Arkansas, Louisiana, Sweden, Italy….
In some cases from “blunt force trauma”.
Some theorize that the birds got scared and flew themselves into the ground or some other fixed object.
Birds don’t do that.
Nope, flocks of birds are getting taken out by an alien spacecraft with a cloaking device.
Finally. My research has been finished for years – I thought they had forgotten about me and were never going to give me a ride home.

My friends had a male dog named Brooklyn; it got fixed and they named it Queens.
