My siblings and I had to clean our rooms and our playroom, always had to clear the table and load the dishwasher and clean up after meals, and empty the trash. And we especially had to take care of all our animals. And we had a ski house, where all the kids had to do everything – cleaning, vacuuming, laundry, you name it.
But I honestly don’t remember getting a regular allowance. I think if we really wanted or needed something, we’d get money for it, or be allowed to spend a certain amount. Otherwise, we were allowed to spend birthday and Hanukkah money we saved from relatives.
But, we were definitely taught the value of a dollar. We were all sent to work as soon as we turned 16, and were on our own financially for all summers and vacations. We had room & board at home, but any money we needed or wanted for anything, we had to earn ourselves.
Letting the other person wear the pants is probably a good strategy when you have kids – that way you can blame failure on your spouse.
Dibs, this is 2011. Wives wear the pants in every (straight) marriage.
DAve, Newsflash.
Wives, period, wear the pants.
When a man becomes a husband he becomes stupid.
It seems that most of the wives wear the pants with the married male posters here.

Biff, I have a milder version but very similar mindset as Lech with this kid stuff but wife is like yours and she too wears the pants.
