I had a friend in college who said pretty much the same thing about Freud- didn’t think Freud was was intelligent or a great analyst. But he was the first, and as i told my friend- you may not like his thinking but denying its impact is to ignore history. I don’t know that socialism or Marxism were inevitable. Nor do I think capitalism is the more “grown up” system. That we will see in 100 years, if we survive. It’s easy to say what is obvious in hindsight.
I disagree. Communism and socialism were inevitable failed experiments while humans went through certain growing pains. To say it resulted from Marx’s thinking is giving him far more credit than he deserves. All he did was look at stuff and point out how it works, much of which is pretty obvious. Obviously *someone* had to be involved in all of those failed experiments, but it’s not like you can say they happened because of any of the participants.
Marx’s mom said “If Karl did something more than read Das Kapital he would have likely had more Kapital”
LOL

Oh, Oh, OH….On of the categories on Jeopardy is “Marxisms.”
I know.
Marx was not a dictator.
His thinking is what gave rise eventually to communism and sociaolism. marxism per se, no, but you can’t deny Marx’ influence on political thinking.
“Marx…..examples of dictators”
DIBS, since you’re on my side I’m not going to bust you hard for this, but if you were a lib I most certainly would.
Marx, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il are all examples of dictators that left their people less well off than if they never existed. There are many others.
