  1. Unions aren’t all bad. Employees need protection from unjust firings and crazy managers in the work place. I think these rights should come with lower wages and benefits than their private counterparts who have no job security. You shouldn’t be able to have it both ways.

  2. No, Pete, sounds good. Any less and you’ll spend all your time just getting there and back. I’ve listed activities we liked below. If you like all of that, you actually will not have enough time.

Monteverde — zipline (I think we did Aventuras, which was great), guided bird walk to look for quetzals and three-wattled bell birds (they are very proud of those bell birds as they were recorded locally and featured in the jungle sounds in Jurassic park), and a hike or two, or some horseback riding. Even if you are not a birder (and I am most emphatically not) bring good binoculars for spotting birds and animals in the trees. Do everything with guides — you’ll see more. It’s chillier up there, so you won’t feel like lounging around much.

Arenal — hike near volcano field, hanging bridges (daytime and guided tour at noght are both great), hot springs.

Don’t forget to budget extra driving time.

arkady — weight of snow pulled gutter away from roof and bent it so snowmelt spilling over rather than draining. Water drip was hitting straight onto a newly discovered roof leak on the extension. Grrrr.

  3. “Many fewer now once the Dept. of Ed. got on the stick and held hearings, offered settlements, wrapped up cases.”

D of E got on the stick after massive public disgust, not self-examination.
