NYC teachers have class size much higher than elsewhere in the metropolitan area, and a much higher concentration of kids that are harder to teach. More than half of NYC public school students come from families where English is not spoken at home and certainly there are many more kids from less-educated parents. The next set of cuts has to come from the NYC Dept. of Education bureaucracy, which is seriously bloated. Klein and company signed up with every (expensive) tom, dick and harry consultant and that’s where the fat is right now.
ENY, my point is not that Philly is all that but that NY sports have been disappointing right now and yes, we talking about right now. diff story if out G-Men didnt choke away that Philly game – ie we div winner and in playoffs. at this point, Philly does have an edge over us (better hockey, better football, better baseball; worst basketball).
I have a strong dislike for casinos. I spent a week last fall at a conference in Las Vegas where I had to walk across the casino floor to get from my hotel room to the meeting rooms every day.
That was more than enough exposure to last me a a decade or two.
I have an issue with UTF not the teachers. I know quite a few teachers and they all complain about the UTF and the administration. They end up getting screwed by both and don’t get paid nearly enough.
Other city employess that are unionized? They need compensation cuts. Period. They shouldn’t have salaries and benefits that make private sector employees think twice about working for non-government agencies. Taking a public sector job should really be a trade off between job stability/security OR higher compensation and at-will employment.
Casinos are really stressful for me. I tend not to do well in places that are full of noise.

ENY, have you ever been to a casino?
You don’t steal from the Devil while you are visiting Hell!
ENY, lay off.
You can be a Yankee fan without slashing people.
The first and only time I was ever in Las Vegas was about 10 years ago for the CES. I stayed ot the Bellagio and was totally underwhelmed.
It’s the worst of all facets of America.
