Lech, your landlady sounds like me with my crown heights pad. it’s empty for 3 yrs now and it’s largely due to me not trusting someone taking good care of the place.
DH, got a cyclists story for you. 2 dudes biked toward each other in the bike lane. they came super close to each other before slowing down so they can navigate around each other. the salmon cyclists was mouthing off about the other dude being a d*ck, etc. was still mouthing off and looking backward at the other cyclist where he nearly clips a dude who stepped out from btwn the cars. he and the pedestrian mouth off then bam, the pedestrian shoves the dude of the bike and kicks him a few times before going his way. that dude forgot key lesson, mouthing off to a geeky looking white dude on bike is one thing but real stupid when doing it to a decent size brotha.
M4L – Doubt you can take our place when we leave, but I’m happy to recommend you. Owner left it empty for 4 years before we moved in b/c she doesn’t trust anyone to live there. I am connected to her profesionnaly / socially so she trusted me to move in.
I posted this on the “fring” thread but it is worth repeating here, in line with Denton’s photos above:
‘If you want to see how neighborhoods change, google the following: “Dennis Hamill, the myth of Park Slope”. It will bring up an article that he wrote in a 1978 edition of New York magazine. Check out the photos in that article, particularly those of Carroll St. between 4th and 5th Ave. “Berlin after the war”, as we used to say.’
hey, good idea just popped into my head. how about we do a fantasy league type thing with investing where winners pay losers for drinks at the gatherings
50k fantasy money
can invest in commodities, equities, bonds, etc
YTD perf determines winners vs. losers

URGENT REQUEST
Does anyone know someone who can babysit for a 20 month old during the day Wednesday? Starting 10 am going as late as 6.
Wife took on a pro bono litigation assignment for a nonprofit. Going to trial Wed and babysitting fell through. Everyone we know can’t do it.

I think a Brownstoner fantasy investing / trading game actually sounds kind of fun.
my holdings are way above where they were before the Lehman collapse…restructured my whole IRA
