  3. *rob* you make some very good points. But I would think that you, as a dog owner, would know better than to ever approach a lone dog tied to a pole, no matter how cute it may look. It’s so obvious in many cases that these poor guys are really stressed out at being left alone like that, and it’s their stress more than anything that makes then respond aggressively (what would you do in a similar situation?). I do think too many people in Park Slope just think that everyone loves everyone and of course their dog will be fine left out in the cold for a few hours, because all the loving people around will take care of it – even if that were true, the dog doesn’t know it (in most cases – I saw a basset tied up outside of Key Food on Fifth Avenue the other day who was an absolute attention whore – he would literally pick his targets when he saw people coming (usually went for women in couples – pretty much ignored single men, or men in groups, and only occasionally went after single women) and start baying until the person went over to pet him. When there were no people around he was absolutely silent – it was pretty funny to watch), and this is cruel (and stupid on the part of the owners, because dogs do get stolen, as we’ve all seen and heard).
