Wachovia did a great survey of their clients a few years back (when they still existed) asking “How much money do you need to feel financially secure”?
The answer for every bracket of net worth was around 1.8x what they had. The multiplier was very consistent. Didn’t matter how much they had to start, but with ‘just’ 1.8x that amount they would feel comfortable.

Looked at Clyde’s stuff – have to agree w/ dibs about rich vs super rich. His budget is just about what friends of mine do & feel poor with. (Needless to say, I have a lot of friends who “make do” very well w/ a third of that.)
