I think in 79 I was dancing on the tables at SOB, which was a wonderful, divey, place then with live samba bands and formica tables. My God, I loved that place. Also another one – Cacaca in the East 60s. Studio 54 scared me somehow.
Help needed. I almost couldn’t move the car for alt side because the locks were frozen. (The hatch on the back would unlock but was frozen in place.) I tried silicone spray, WD-40 & finally a candle under the handle & under the key. What’s the best way to de-ice a lock? Or not have it happen to begin with?
I think a man noticed that I was staring at him on the train this morning…..with appreciation and respect. Maybe affection.
I watched this guy the whole time on the 4/5 from Fulton St. He looked like he was about 50, dark skinned guy from one of the islands, neatly dressed, wearing his winter gear and carrying a flight bag.
This guy was hand-down the most courteous person I have seen in a while. He carefully moved out of the way to let people on and off the train, moved gracefully to allow the wads of humanity to redistribute themselves. And then when a seat became available, he waited a minute, looked around and when it appeared nobody was angling for the seat, he sat down. Then a young woman, juggling bag, coffee, stuff stood in front of him, he offered her his seat, which she refused.

Arkady, hook up your car to a herd of Canada Geese and then borrow Rob’s dog to scare them to the other side of the street.
Yeah, I was thinking the trick would be to heat up the key somehow.
Thanks, m4l, that’s essentially what I did w/ my candle.
Arkady, I recall using some thingie like a key that is battery-operated which heats it up which you then insert it slowly to melt the ice

It was all word-of-mouth–no Internet, no cell phones. Oh, and gossip columns in the tabloids and NY Magazine.

What a guy.
