this is classic example of why I rather live in bldg with maint crew – the coil thingie broke in my bedrm window. 20 minutes after I called maint to come fix it, my boy shows up to fix it and gives me some tutorial of the basics of how these various components work. no charge of course as they already rape me monthly via the hefty maint charge but then it is no DIY
I may buy a piece of thick styrofoam and cut it to stuff it up there for tonight. I think I can manage that without any bodily damage. Arkady, I really admire you and your handywoman skills. I really need to develop more myself!!!
Arkady, it is the top window and it is slipping down from the top and it is the outer window. I actually tried everything under the sun and I couldn’t move it from the bottom or the top. (I spent so much time balancing myself doing this acrobatic act with the damn window that I woke up feeling like I spent a day killing myself in the gym!!)
dona – Lookl around for something that’s approximately the right size – umbrella, old mop or broom handle, etc. to prop it up. Ridiculous to let heat run like that for 24 hours. Would even be worth a jaunt to HD or Lowe’s for a custom-cut piece of lumber.
dona – What about taping the hole closed w/ bubble wrap? It’s an excellent insulator.
Dave, I think I can actually buy a piece of that in the Staples near here. I am checking it out later. But thank you.
donatella, too bad I’m not home, I could give you a piece of rigid stryofoam insulation

Donatella, can you prop up a broomstick or mop with books to keep the window closed until the guys come tomorrow morning?
I’m sure you have a spare one to lend her, rf. 🙂
I tried all those ideas, rf, but the problem is that it is the top window and I didn’t have anything that worked. They’ll fix it tomorrow.
