25 years in the City and the only time I ever recall feeling unsafe was last year, when I made the stupid mistake of walking at dusk, in a drizzle, down Furman Street from the new Pier 1 park home. The bike/walking path wasn’t open, and there’s nowhere to go until you get all the way to Joralemon Street. Clearly I’ve watched too much Law & Order, but I was certain my dismembered body would be found – eventually – somewhere on the other side of the construction fence. Now that the path through all 6 piers is open, I’m not concerned.
Biffy – That’s the intelligent thing to do but when something happens you tend to react instinctively not cleverly. I’ve done some really stupid things when confronted by a mugger threat – sheer luck that nothing came of any of it.
Rob, did the muggers get anything from you? I think the smart thing to do is carry an extra wallet with a couple of small bills in it and throw it on the ground in one direction and speed off in the other direction. Unless they threaten with a gun, in which case I would just hand over whatever I happened to have on me.

no way, they come down new years day. there is nothing more depressing and gross than christmas decorations still up the first week of january. actually 2nd – feb 8th is pure misery.
i was only mugged ONCE in nyc and it was well after 6am, like around 8am on broadway and 96th street. it was actually kind of surreal. but i had it coming i guess. i would have mugged me too.

Oh, & dairy – piles of whippedcream on the banana.
DeLepp – Yep, most healthful brekkers I’ve had in ages.
“I had apple, pumpkin & banana cream pies for breakfast – no room last night for any of it.”
I see you got all of your recommended servings of fruits and vegetables in one sitting!

Bad luck to take them down before or after the 5th or 6th of Jan.
