I know this is going to post way too late, since I read the OT on the train, but I must comment on cooking w alcohol. When you marinate tough cuts of meat in alcohol for a while, then cook for three hours, it adds a delicious flavor. Utter waste in pasta sauce. Yuck.
And of course the cook should drink while cooking. Isn’t that the whole point?
I agree, dona. But bikers need to be in that program too- and bikes should be licensed if they are going to be on public roads with cars. Almost got hit the other day when a bike rider decided he didn’t have to wait at the red light. Too many of those types.
I’m very busy, post SuperComputer conference, so not much time to chat today. I saw that Donatella can’t make this weekend. Are we still on, or do you want to postpone? The following Saturday, Dec. 4th, is fine with me too. Let me know.
See you later folks. Still eager to discuss the lecture. If I have time, will do so this afternoon.
DIBS- your response is asinine. You’re like a little kid sticking his fingers in his ears, squeezing your eyes shut and yelling “I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you!” And if you think politics and the economy are not integrally linked, you’re asleep. So his commentary- whether you call it political or economic, has validity. Next?
The City used Brooklyn as a guinea pig with this bike lane program. I personally think it is a disaster. I spent this whole summer in a semi-state of terror as I was trying to deal with not hitting hoardes of cyclists doing all kinds of things – legal and illegal.
I really think that there has to be a public education program for safety. This includes rules of the road for drivers (now we have to be paying attention to a lot more things, i.e. coping not only with crossing pedestrians BUT bicycles in zipping in the path of your turn), watching for cyclists in biking lanes when you open your parked car door. And not to start foaming at the mouth about cyclists but the obvious things involve stopping at lights, going the “right way”. signaling when making a turn. And on top of everything is an agressive enforcement of the rules by police. Or else scrap the whole freaking program.
I am really having trouble with this site today. I’m not able to copy only some text of posts – it highlights everything. I scroll up or down and next thing I’m in a different thread. Sheesh.

The North Korea news is terrifying.

Sorry, meant TOTD, not TODT.
