Seriously – the Republicans have some serious SKILLS to brainwash some dude in Arkansas who works at Wal-Mart to get on board with the same party that DIBS belongs to.
Legion- what a waste of time. Of course you got all your propaganda- er- research from your favorite right wing websites and you are greatly mistaken on your primary point. Capitalism is not a cultural driver. It is an economic driver. Your concept of what the cultural divide is, is based on all the wrong parameters. I know plenty of leftists who are unrepentant capitalists.Whereas Bush claimed there was such a thing as “Compassionate Conservatism”, I beg to differ. Compassion is not a concept to the right.

people crowding onto subways means they have jobs and the recession is over thanks to obama.

Here’s my take on the market through the end of the year:
Over the course of the next 2 weeks, the Irish situation will be dealt with and the ECB will give them EUR100B to bail out the banks (who hold all the Irish debt)…thisa will cause the Euro to weaken further but it will cause the equity markets to rally strongly…strong likje we haven’t seen in quite a while and fueled by the QEII money that still sits on the sideklines in cash.
This will drive risky assets through the roof….think Thailand, indonesia and especially Vietnam (VNM).
There will be an end of the year rally that will be fueled by all those people chasing performance that they were unable to achieve YTD and it will be a free-for-all.
It will come to a nasty head and sell off again in January after the realization that this was a momentum driven rally and nothing has changed.
I did nothing yesterday because We see this sort of volatility too often…it’s not the start of a bear market, just more volatility.

Made me think what if the crisis happened next year with the tea-party-infused republican-controled house of reps ?

Greetings from New Orleans!
Well, I see that ole Charlie Rangel finally got his comeuppance.
In a way, it seems symbolic to me, as he represents another era. King of the “poverty pimps”, he comes from the school that believes the way to prosperity is to wangle as much money from the federal government as possible.
Memo to Charlie: the federal government is broke, the Tea Party is in the ascendancy and your day is done. Why not retire? Enjoy your villa in the Dominican Republic.
By Petebklyn on November 17, 2010 9:34 AM
how’s the hunt, gem?

Pete, my commute has gotten worst and I suspect it’s because more folks employed. when the big firings were taking place, I noticed the steady drop in traffic. so I hope the current heavier traffic is the reversal – ie more folks working

Pete, help the econ out too – splash that retirement warchest $$$ around.
By rf on November 17, 2010 9:45 AM
Oh please. Rangel’s violations are nickels and dimes. A rent-controlled apartment used as a campaign office. Soliciting donations for a center to be named for him at City University. Not paying taxes on a rental income on a house in the Dominican Republic (we are not talking about Atlantic Yards here!). Extremely small potatoes, and I don’t blame his constituents for voting him in every time. This is not Tom DeLay or Rod Blagojevich!
By gemini10 on November 17, 2010 9:45 AM
Pete – Am still waiting to hear back about the job I interviewed with last week that I really want. So crossing fingers
Am thinking of contacting temp agencies next week or after Tgiving just so I can start working every day, I don’t care if it’s an Exec asst position at this point – I need money and to work!
Otherwise I will be one of those 15 million Americans that need an extension on my unemployment benefits…..
By etson on November 17, 2010 9:46 AM
Interesting thing about unemployment is how regionally concentrated it is. Had a look at the latest data by MSA the other day. Dominated by CA, NV, FL and a couple of places in the rust belt, which really skew the rate upwards. Most areas of the country nowhere near as bad.

Subway service is noticeably slower, by about 23% on the numbered lines. Personally, I’m shocked.

I’m totally for social sciences,
I’m only trying to figure out some of the driving
