I think the toy drive is a great idea. I used to donate toys to Toys for Tots every Christmas. They don’t pick up – they don’t have the money – but you and Cobble can use my car to drop the toys off at this or any charity if that helps.
there is a good site for local charity where I found where to donate money for the Red Hook garden project. Let me find it. Something like Brooklyn Gives, or NY gives.
I have volunteered my time to NY Cares and it is very satisfying to put your effort into volunteering.
snappy you can also contact that organization that helps moderate income nyc families who make betweeen 100K – 250K a year pay for horse riding lessons and riding gear.please not tho, they do NOT accept any used riding gear.
I wanted to know of a Brooklyn-based kid’s charity because Cobble and I were thinking of having a toy drive at our holiday party. We’d ask each attendee to bring a toy so we can then make a large toy donation in the name of the Brownstoner readers to the local charity. Would you all be willing to contribute a toy at the party?
That’s part of their church mission- separate from disaster relief. I think they might and i don;t know how much money they get from the Federal gov. for that part of their organization- but the disaster relief p[art allows no proselytizing. The SA is run like a military organization and many of the SA folk I met were dedicated and self-sacrificing. It’s a hard life- while they may get housing through the SA, most SA soldiers live frugal lives dedicated to service.
“Anyone know of a Brooklyn-based charity that serve underprivileged kids/families?”
Snappy, Baby Buggy is a great charity in Manhattan that serves underprivileged kids and families in all 5 boroughs. I volunteered there over the Summer. It’s on West 36th & 8th or thereabouts. Started by Jerry Seinfeld’s wife.
snappy,
How about a large Plum tree?
“most SA soldiers live frugal lives dedicated to service.” –
sounds like most gov’t employees.
“Just want a place to take toys”
