  1. DCB – is your statement towards me b/c of the job situation.
    Yes all of that is true
    and what’s worse – I have loads of CONTACTS and I USE THEM!!!!

    GUESS WHAT? I ain’t getting many leads. I’ve been on interviews with Warner Music, 3 with sony music, NBC, 2 recruiters and now I have an interview tomorrow that I hope I score with b/c I realllllly want to work there – it’s a political strategy consulting group.

    I have already applied for the NYC teaching fellows program and while I would love to start my own bakery/cafe – I can’t put my family at risk as I am the main bread-winner – so thats a no-go.

    I spend hours each day(despite chatting with you peeps) applying for jobs, circling back with old coworkers who might know someone at a place I applied to and just reading constant articles on how to perfect my pitch per se.
    I am very charming at interviews and speak articulately – so no clue why I haven’t gotten at least 1 offer.

  2. DCB, what are you talking about? Gem has been actively looking for work, and even interviewing, for a while now- nothing has panned out, and there’s not a lot out there. how is that her fault?

  3. Slopey;

    People seem to be having reading comprehension problems today. HERE is what I advocated above:

    -eliminate the Food Stamp program;

    -eliminate the Section 8 program;

    Use the funding for these programs to increase the EITC payments by the comensurate amount. Presto!!! The same amount of income supplementation for the working poor, sans bureauacracies at the fed and state level. Benefits flow right to the individual, who is then responsible for how it is spent.

    I’m sure my proposal would be popular with the SEIU, wouldn’t you think?

  4. simple fixes to “complex” problems:

    -bio-metric ID cards for fed/stete benefits

    -one on one interviews done on a yearly basis
    to assess need.

    -yearly cross-checking with state death records.

    -zero tolerance policies for drug/violent crime
    offences while on public monies.

  5. Funny, DH, I was totally Law & Ordered out from Fall 2007 until about 2 weeks ago when you and Snappy were talking about the new episodes. Baseball is over. The election is over. I watch some football, but not really into the college games, and, as a vertically challenged person, I have never liked basketball. So, I’ve been watching a few of my old favorite SVU episodes (Poison, Closure Parts I & II, Sheherazade, e.g.). I like Criminal Intent earlier episodes.
