>When the Democratic party once again accepts that the USA is an exceptional nation with good, decent people, then I’ll listen.
Seems to me that most good, decent people already are Democrats. There used to be good, decent Republicans, too, but they seem to have been replaced by lunatics and head-stompers (I still can’t believe that – and those cretins had the gall to blame it on the victim. Typical.).
Look within your party and see the intolerance of speech that has fomented there. Your own name-calling is enough evidence that the Democratic party has its share of what you accuse the Republicans of.
that article was hogwash, because it argues false premises. It starts from teh usual Republican spin, that Democrats think the President is a redemmer of a fallen nation, just because he campaigned under the motto “change”? Uh, every non-incumebant ever has campaigned under change, and Democrats don’t hate america or view it as a fallen nation. Nice try.
Where do I say that everyone must agree with my perceptions?
I am talking about the underlying premise, or ethos, if you will, of the party’s platform. I’ll quote Steele:
“Among today’s liberal elite, bad faith in America is a sophistication, a type of hipness…..It rationalizes power in the name of intervening against evil – I will use the government to intervene against the evil tendencies of American life”.
That is what I am talking about. We can disagree on the proper way to remedy healthcare, foreign policy, etc. That’s democracy. All I am saying is that I do not respect, nor will listen to, a platform that is based on a premise of bad faith in this country.

Noki, do you claim that It Can’t Happen Here portrays the dangers of the right more than the left? Surely you can’t believe the economic left presents less danger of absolutism and erosion of civil liberties than the economic right.

“With all due respect to CGar: I’m not aiming for compromise or consensus.”
Ummmmm, how the eff did I get dragged into this discussion. Is it merely because of my undying love for Noki???
[I <3 Noki]
Arkady;

Oh Letch. Your facetiousness does not become you.

Okay Benson. Let’s let it go. The irony in your response is so painful my teeth hurt.
Noki, do you claim that It Can’t Happen Here portrays the dangers of the right more than the left? Surely you can’t believe the economic left presents less danger of absolutism and erosion of civil liberties than the economic right.
“Should be the theme of your party.”
*YOUR* party? Harumph! Babs, this is OUR party. You better show up!!
