  1. Looking for a microscope snappy.

At about 3 pm I was about to click “confirm order” on a new digital microscope + 100 sample slides (human blood smear, pig nerve tissue, housefly wing, you know, the good stuff) + 100 empty slides. And then I stopped myself. I can just keep showing my kids cells and viruses and bacteria on google images, no need to drop 300 bux on a bunch of stuff that’s really for me and not for them. And besides, there are so many other things I want do do with them, no need to add yet another activity that won’t get the attention it deserves. So no microscope for the little jackals after all.

  2. Just checking in here to see if anybody is around…..

Etson, about Staten Island, I rushed out of there when I was 20 and like lots of things I dismissed as horrible/hopeless, I recognize the pluses of Staten Island, but I never really considered buying there. Every now and then when I am feeling terrorized by my building, I say that, but not seriously.

DCB, I suspected that there were going to be some issues there, just judging by the super funky front entrance and cornice-ectomy and painted exterior. That being said, consider the following:

    1) It is a very nice location AND you’ve got a corner.
    2) It is wide
    3) You have a curb cut and your own parking.
    4) It has that great bow window on St. James.
    5) Owners ARE SERIOUSLY HURTING

Given that, the question then becomes:

    1) Can you get a realistic assessment of what kind of
structural, plumbing and electrical issues there are?
(The rest of the cosmetic stuff is easy to assess)

    2) Can you get a contractor in there who is competant (you can get somebody here) who will give you some realistic numbers?

    3) Do you have the stomach for renovation (a real question)…shit happens.

If you can get the above, then you are able to negotiate a real price which I suspect is 950,00 – 1,000,000. Also, if you are willing to walk away now, then they may come back to you later when they can’t sell at their desired price and they are EVEN MORE DESPERATE. Trust me, with a 1.2 million dollar mortgage, they are desperate.

That happened to me. I was going back and forth and the owners were so crazy (were getting a divorce) and so unrealistic, I walked away. Then from June till Oct, they yanked the chain of a guy so badly, he walked away. By this time, they had so exhausted themselves, I lowballed them and they said yes (and this was the bidding war time) because they really wanted to end the pain and get the cash.

Anyway, re CGar’s comment about offending one another, I wholeheartedly AGREE!!!!!!!

I am in Omaha, NE which is an armpit. KC is so much nicer.

    ‘Night, PLUSAs.

  3. Yes, psycho! Silly boy has lost his mind! I explained to him that despite the encouragement from Pia to take a flying leap, he won’t likely find anyone on the street to love and feed him the way I do. I think he doubts my sincerity 🙁
