  1. Wait, the extinction of the neanderthals has something to do with what system of government we ought to choose under the stark and assumption-loaded dichotomy presented by legion? Not gonna play that game. I’ve got some caves to paint.

Meanwhile, I’ll hang out with cobble listening to the Clash until this all blows over. “Spanish bombs in Andalucia . . . ”

  2. Thanks M4L, I am still on the fence.

Dona, I missed your earlier post. Work is a terrible interference these days. If you get a chance to look tonight, that would be great. I don’t want to make a move without you.

DIBS, unfortunately I was NOT asleep. I am at work every morning at 6am. I am noting your call on gold and the dollar.
My take is don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.

  3. “Applying your way might be good for dealing with something along the lines of evaluating policy, but it silly when dealing with history.”

That’s it! Policy! Go look at Columbia or NYU and see if they don’t have something for you to gnaw on, lech.

  4. Well, I don’t feel at all bad about my European ancestry, so that’s certainly not the root of anything, ishtar.

Yes, with respect to colonization, they would have too. That’s exactly what I claim, and exactly where we started, and we’ve managed to get pretty twisted up in little subplots all day, but that’s still exactly what I think needs to be examined if someone wants to pass judgment on colonization in an intellectually honest way. I’m not sure why you feel the need to attribute some kind of personal psychological motive on my part.

  5. “Finally: Slopey – where is your call for “reasonable” dialogue? I’ll take a Carl Paladino rant any day of the week over the fever swamps above.”

Read back. I warned everyone not to take the bait before it happened. But I also agree with montrose that it was a more nuanced discussion on both sides than you are giving it credit for.
