But not the English or Dutch, apparently, because those are protestant cultures. No soccer riots or hooligans on those countries. (Actually, they have calmed down in recent years in both countries, but centuries after the reformation.)

The French know that such a protest (hardly a ‘revolt’) actually can cause change as it has done so in the past. In the US there’d be this outcry against the unions and some politician would pay the price of not being re-elected. Never underestimate middle- and upper-class anger when their convenience is mildly affected.
