“Arkady;
NYC property taxes are under ther control of the NYC Council and the Mayor, not the state government.”
Hey benson,
I think the concern is that if you slash state spending on things local government has to do anyway, you are going to force localities to ante up to make up the difference. A lot of State funding is channeled to localities for various purposes and in furtherance of various state and fed policies. It is possible to make cuts that don’t do this, but it is easier to make broad claims about how much you are going to cut the budget and cut taxes if you ignore the distinction. When we had a big round of State income tax cuts in the late 80s and verious funding cuts in aid to localities to make the cuts work, local taxes went up to pick up the slack. There’s honest budget cutting and then there is sleight of hand. One would need to look at Paladino’s, or anyone’s, proposals to know which category they belong to.
dave, I saw that story on the news. A passenger took video of the driver turning a page on the Kindle while driving, and the driver tried to get the passenger to hand over the video, claiming it was illegal to take videos on a bus, lol. Guy was suspended, so far.
Legion, if you spent a little less time on your Haiku, you’d see from dave’s post that the guy who died bought Segway a few years ago.
Benson, have you ever walked around the old section of UENO, all the little shops that survived WWII? Love that area.
”
Donatella,
I assume you mean the row of shops that lead up to the temple area. Yes, I’ve been there a number of times. It’s great. In general, Ueno is a nice area.
English lawyers on conference calls are the worst. They kind of mumble into their phones. I’m inevitably the guy who barges in and says “I CAN’T HEAR YOU – CAN YOU PLEASE SPEAK LOUDER?” And I’ll keep saying it until I can hear every word clearly.
the inventor of the Segway is still living no?
his name’s Kamen or Kaman.
A real genius, he lives on a private island off the
NorthEast.
He made his big money by re-inventing the dialysis machine.
basically took the old machine apart and figured out that
you could do the same thing with an inexpensive plastic/osmotic type design.

My company’s HQ is in Akihabara, which is “meh”.

I like the style of BBC news.
ON TV here (local even worse) they all sounds like doing a dramatic reading. Auditioning for role in a movie.

There was a video on the news last week of some bus driver reading his Kindle while driving.
Jackass should be fired and stripped of benefits.
