  1. Amusing political campaign screw-up. Rocco Rossi, candidate for Toronto mayor and obviously of Italian heritage runs posters touting himself as a “Goodfella”, “Wise Guy” and having “Bocce Balls”

Context: he’s a dull-but-worthy centrist in 4th place currently. Trying desperately to steal some thunder from a Tea Party-esque populist right-winger (Rob Ford), who has a big lead in the polls.

  2. Yeah, dibs. For some reason they don’t like kinky/curly/nappy hair.

They never did lice checks at majority of the schools I went to. I guess because they were predominantly black. It wasn’t until I spent a year in Iowa as a child that I learned about head lice. The nurse never checked the heads of the 3 black kids in school.

  3. “sorry about all your losses. it might sound horrible to say but i look at this situation more as free-ing than anything else”

Thanks, *rob*. I know where you’re coming from. We’ve had this discussion before, on and offline. With me, it depends on the relatives. My mother, father, stepfather, grandmother, and great aunt were definitely losses.

My grandfather, I’m sorry he died, but he was not a warm man to put it mildly, and we were not close, and he made it clear that I was not his favorite, so, olov hashalom (rest in peace as they say in Yiddish).

And my grandfather’s second wife. Well, let’s just say that there’s a special place for her. And she’s a direct descendant of Frederick Law Olmsted. There was the time she tore her dress off in the living room window . . . And there were the times she threatened to kill my grandfather (though that was a tough call on who to side with) . . . And there were the times she went to the beach and started to walk into the ocean to drown herself (though she was a great swimmer . . . ) Plus she called me “Dearie”, and NOT in a nice way.

  4. Donatella, the zapped post was Jimson dude saying he saw your pics and said something was missing – ie some paint job, etc. (clearly trying to peddle his svcs). that was what I was piggy-backing on with my “missing” post

  5. “left to loose”

Maybe he was thinking of “lefty, loosey, righty, tighty” which is what they taught the women who were recruited to work in arms factories in WW II. it meant turn the nuts left to loosen and right to tighten.
