In Jamaica some blacks have a very high level of disdain for whites (doesn’t matter your country of origin). Of course we know it’s a hold over from slavery and colonialism. I’ve heard from some of my friends who grew up in Jamaica that in some areas whites are openly disrespected and intimidated. Fortunately, from what I’ve been told, that’s not the norm and people usually keep it all to themselves so they can get your money for services.
ishtar, after a few people with machetes approached the car screaming leave whitey get the fuck out of here whitey my dad stopped being adventurous in jamaica. Pretty much main roads and Negril beach after that.
My dermatologist thinks I’m a hypochondriac. Every time I go, which is about 4 times a year, I ask him about moles and skin cancer. I wear at least 40+ SPF on my face and any exposed parts of my body. My boyfriend thinks I’m nuts because I stand in the shade while I wait for walk signal and I use an umbrella when I can’t find shade.

as long as I’m hold a bag of something, I’m fine in most hoods as folks just think I’m delivering take-out.
