I would agree with dave and *rob*, but with a qualification. Not everyone with a cell phone, iPod, BlackBerry, etc., is rude, clueless, self-centered, etc. Those who are, and walk slowly down the sidewalk, block corners, block subway stairs, etc., do not deserve politeness or civility.

People who block subway stairs talking or texting, and slow walkers, are my among biggest pet peeves.
