dittoburg,
we had this argument before,
about faith and intelligence.
it ends where we agree that
even the greatest of scientists
are at a loss to tell us how exactly
the trend towards entropy in the Universe
is directly contradicted by the
order of life.
“Church attendance would be a pretty good (although not complete) start in determining someone’s Christianity. ”
WHAT???!!! I couldn’t disagree with you more strongly. My grandfather was a very devout man and went to church twice a week. And so was my bed-ridden grandmother who never went to church for the last 20 years of her life. Are you going to sit there and tell me that my gr.father was more religious than my gr.mother? No way. Uh-uh, no siree.
Going to church is ZERO indication of anyone’s religious beliefs. My mother was fairly religious and she stopped going to church circa 1960 for personal reasons, but that woman kept her cross and her bible on her night table and she read it (I have no idea how often, but often enough for me to witness it.)
And what about people who live in repressed places where they aren’t allowed to practice their beliefs? And do so in their livingroom or garage or backyard for all I know.
My point is…WHO ARE ANY OF US/YOU TO JUDGE ANYONE! And by saying that going to church is the first measure, well, I just can’t abide by that at all. I will tell you this. People are more religious and more spiritual than you may know. And many will play it close to the vest and you may never ever know what they truly hold in their heart. It’s between them and their g*d, etson. Do not judge, lest you be judged. And I mean this quite seriously.

then, there’s always this sequence;

“You people are way too heavy for a Monday. . . . I could use a few glasses of wine right now.”
As long as you’re pouring, Ishtar, I’ll take a glass, too.
MM, funny that a guy who allegedly hates ‘branding’ only corrects you on the spelling of a brand. Probably one of his faves too!
etson, I think you may be confusing “pious” with “religious”.
I have a very simple definition of a religious person.
A religious person hews to the tenets and commandments of the religion s/he professes to be a part of.
That’s why I generally say I can count the religious people I have met in my life on the fingers of one hand.

“one can clearly see he is not a religious person.”
And you know this, precisely, how? Who is anyone to judge this?! legion, You shock me.
MM and Cobble,
lol,
…um, well I heard the President gets his religious
thoughts of the day by Blackberry phone text.
..Last I heard, God resents the use of “texting” worship.
something to do with the opposable thumb taking a great deal of effort to create.
tee hee , this one is sure stirring up trouble today 😉

You people are way too heavy for a Monday. I wish there were a liquor store that delivered around here. I could use a few glasses of wine right now.
“Therefore all people from Long Island are assholes.”
Maybe not but there’s something wrong with the place…
