  1. “i dont see african-americans getting any kind of special discounts on vices, why are native americans special?”

    *sigh* never mind.

I agree it’s despicable to make cigs and liquor cheap for them but it used to be they made money selling tax free on the reservations. Not it just makes them targeted, idf they can no longer sell to non-tribal members. Casinos are making some tribes rich- more power to them I say. Considering the government has tied up, or tried to tie up the mineral rights on rez lands, and many tribes are suing for those rights and the money made off of them. The government stuck them where they thought the land was worthless and useless, gave them nothing to build with and threw them a few bones while screwing the hell out of them. Treat them like sovereign nations on one hand, and like sh*t in the other. How this country treated the Native American (and slavery) is a rot on our soul.

  2. Tax free on reservations, but supposed to be limited to sales to tribe members. Major disputes over whether tribes can sell tax-free to anyone. They claim they can and assert sovreignty rights, but govt claims right to tax sales to non-tribemembers. Right now, some businesses on reservations are pushing huge volume. Lots of tax revenues at stake. And no, you can’t walk into a bodega in Brooklyn, flash your Iroquois card and get a savings, although people seem to know about boddgas with cheapies, and those bodegas are being supplied illicitly by suppliers on tribal lands.

  3. Liquor is discounted on reservations, too? Great. Give a people genetically disposed to alcholism dirt cheap alchohol. Then make them live in conditions that would drive anyone to drink. I guess since the smallpox infested blankets didn’t completely do the job, this will.
