  1. c’mon people…You know full well native americans are not given discounts or exemptions. The reservation land is sovereign and government can’t impose it excise taxes on them. what they are trying to do is collect the excise taxes from those they are not connected to the reservations
(kinda like you are suppose to pay sales taxes to state where goods received).

  2. I’m right here, people. When the storm broke, I was reading a book to a bunch of kids in a classroom. My advisors interrupted to tell me the news. I shooed them away and continued reading the book. After that, I went into hiding and, after a long period whereby people were wondering where I was and what the hell I was doing, I surfaced in my ranch in Texas. Of course I learned this leadership style around 9/11 from our superb former President George W. Bush. (Sarcasm alert).

  3. “and gays, and women, and trannies, and the chinese, the irish, the mexicans, etc etc etc etc. if we gave tax breaks these days to every marginalized and tortured group we’d be BROKER THAN WE ARE NOW!”

None of those groups were sovereign nations within the borders of what is now the USA, with treaties with the US govt. The tax break is not a concession to compensate for mistreatment, it is a tangible vestige of the independent sovereignty that we sort of recognize. Not a comparable situation to other groups victimized by discrimination.

you forget the original people were American Indians they were here long before the mayflower arrived and the early settlers and generations to follow took their land literally right out from their feet and then we did horrible things to them
I feel we should give reparations to Black Americans though and possibly Japanese Americans who were enslaved here in the 1940’s – but am sure that’s another fight here on the OT

  5. Slopey, I was teasing you, based on your “stern” post to *peacock*.

Snapple, DH, I love Billy Joel (and Bruce Springsteen). Not just a LI thing, DH.

ishtar, yes, and don’t dodge my question about meeting us, please.

  6. Koran-burning fallout in Kashmir…

On Wednesday September 15, police and security forces killed four protestors
and 12 were reported injured, as a mob of at least 200 marched to a Christian
Missionary school to burn it. The protestors were aroused over alleged reports
that Koran’s were being desecrated in the U.S.
The BBC as saying quoted a spokesman for the police, “We had to open fire to
quell the mob that was marching towards the missionary school with the intent of
    setting it ablaze.”
Monday saw the worst day of violence since the protests began, when the police
shot and killed 18 people and a Christian school was burned to the ground. This
recent spate of attacks is quite unusual as there has been few incidents of inter
communal violence in the past few years in this region.
