“To aliens, we’re probably just humans. Or maybe food.”

All men are just a “piece of meat” to me. I just don’t bother with “the other white meat.”

So Fishbelly white, Pink, translucent, red and mottled are off your list?

  2. While I do think “African American” is a mouthful and not always accurate, I also think Lech’s link is written by one of those sarcastic super a-holes who thinks he’s so much cleverer than the rest of us. I think what an ethnicity/race/group of people go by should be determined by them, if possible. Seems like all of the names I can think of that many groups are called were devised in the last few centuries by the conquering majority, not the people themselves, and are often less than accurate or complementary.

“Orientals”, for example. “Aborigine”, “Indian”, “Negro”. Native American may be politically correct and more of a mouthful, but it is more accurate. As for black folks, “black” is no more accurate than “white”, “colored” is not really working, “Negro” is just Spanish for black…none of them are truly accurate, as we come from all over, from Africa to Denmark now, so what works? The same can be said for most ethnicities, including white folk. Beats me. Too bad we need identifiers at all. To aliens, we’re probably just humans. Or maybe food.

  3. bxgrl, dear, I email about 55-60 Brownstoners at any given time, unless it’s a last minute impromptu at Montero’s, including people we’ve never met who have still given me their email addresses (e.g., 11217, Ringo, ENY, Minard, BoerumHill), so if anyone (posting, lurking, Tweeting or otherwise) feels left out, they can send their blog names and email addresses to me at: carrollgardened AT gmail DOT com. And I will gladly add them to the guest list for gatherings.

    Signed, Julie McCoy, Cruise Director

    🙂
