yeah i keep hearing that from everyone who is job hunting as well. that the pay for everything is really really bad, like < 30 K a year for jobs that used to pay 40-50 and that they are only hiring moonfaces fresh out of college!
scary times.
ROB! yes exactly – it’s insane, companies are really trying to screw with the unemployed looking for work and another thing they are doing is strting NOT to hire people unemployed, but are only interested in you if you already have a job. Crazy!
Job market has always seemed pretty random to me. Obviously some people are better positioned than others to get a new job, but so much is dependent on chance.
Always very skeptical when people blame the economy etc. Probably because my period of unemployment came when the economy was stronger and had nothing to do with it.
Going to Brooklyn Tech parent orientation on Saturday morning. Daughter is singing with her chorus at Ground Zero Saturday–I have to get her to rehearsal at 5:30 a.m. Fun, fun, fun!
Maybe we’ll cook out on Sunday at the community garden at Greene and Franklin. My friend is a member. We did it last Sunday. Still eating delicious leftovers!
Rutgers isn’t Ivy League, but it also isn’t anything close to bottom of the rung when talking about public universities in the NE region. That school is full of students who could have gone to a much better school, but opted to stay in state for the cheap tuition.
The future Mrs.DCB needed to hire someone for a couple of weeks to replace her assistant. She called up a school and they arranged for 3 graduates to interview. Not one showed up. Not one called.
Admittedly only 2 weeks of work, but still, good experience and a real connection.
Thanks, Wasder!

Forget it if you are female and over 45. And I am WAY over 45!
