  1. so Biff, and Cobble, with both of YOU be at the protest!?!? will YOU put YOUR mouths there!? you cant sit on a blog and complain about if you arent willing to do something about it!!!

and this will NOT be another pier 6 protest!

  2. Ditto Ishtar’s statement. I too get outraged at the fare hikes, etc. but I know that I’m likely not doing my part in terms of voting out the folks who are directly responsible for giving in to the union demands that may be breaking the MTA’s budget/services. It’s time we all put our money where our mouth is.

  3. But has subway service really declined? Apart from the recent elimination of several subway lines, I think subway service is pretty fantastic: for the most part, trains are clean, appropriately heated or air conditioned according to the season, have legible and accurate announcements, and run regularly with few of those odd “outages” that used to happen where you’d get stuck in a tunnel for 20 minutes with no explanation.

  4. I have no issues with overtime pay for for the following reasons:

    1) It costs far more to hire someone than it does to pay overtime.

    2) The number of MTA employees has actually declined, mostly through attrition and some layoffs.

  5. quote:
The overtime pay might be a bit more palatable to the public if there was an accompanying INCREASE in service.

SO true. if anyone here was affected by the truncation of the M line in park slope (or anywhere else for that matter) i am organizing a protest soon and can use a lot of help with organizing it!!

snapp your glitter and sign making skills could come in very hand btw!!!

  6. You get the work rules of the MTA changed by getting rid of the people elected to head to Albany and the NYC Mayor’s Office. They fund the MTA and appoint the people at the negotiating table. This alone is the reason I laugh anytime someone wants to rant about the MTA, fare hikes, and union contracts. The same folks have been sitting in office for years. Direct your outrage their way.

  7. Park Sloper, I see your point, but I think what aggravates some people, like me, is that fact that subway service has shown quite a drastic decline exactly during the period that overtime pay has skyrocketed. The overtime pay might be a bit more palatable to the public if there was an accompanying INCREASE in service.
