The middle east is one of the most intractable and difficult situation in the world today and I don’t think I am wrong to say that it is the root of much of what is going on today. I believe in Israel and her right to exist. I don’t believe in it to the point of world destruction. The right wing government has proven over and over again lately that it is all too happy to be part of the problem, not any part of a solution.
We’ll see what happens with the new talks – if they happen- but I agree. Blindly backing Israel serves no purpose for us, or for them. We’d have more of that “moral clarity” benson seems to think he knows so much about, if we actually weer more pragmatic and open-eyed. Hamas is a thorn in our side, no doubt about it- but if we weren’t walking through fields of rose bushes, we wouldn’t be picking up thorns. So we do bear responsibility for the state of the world today. (As Iman Rauf said.)

Maybe a mansion is too much in these times of financial strain and uncertainty. I don’t want to cut into anyone’s gift giving budget, so please, just give what you can. BH and I could be very happy in a 2 bedroom Coop with a little outdoor space, really. It’d be ok. ; )

I guess you missed the pointed piece on The Daily Show earlier this week showing that a major financial backer of the Islamic Center (Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia) is also the largest shareholder in Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., the parent company of Fox News –which itself is a key source of the hysteria about the proposed center:
Please explain to me how Hamas served a purpose when Israel turned over Gaza to the Palestinians. Instead of using this opportunity to build a prosperous state that peacefully co-existed with Israel, they (Hamas) used the scarce resources of the Palestinian people to shower 100’s of missles on Israel.
