I really don’t get “DJs” nowadays. Yeah, there’s some that do pretty cool stuff. But worshipping a couple of coked out twats because they stand around and play their ipod? please.
Ishtar, there are a lot of positive doings going on regarding the Nostrand Ave corridor, and improving life in Crown Heights in general. These things don’t happen overnight, and they take time and money. Lots of money. There are organizations working with merchants, and there is a Nostrand Ave BID which is being revitalized and becoming relevant.
The blog Nostrand Park is doing a huge project on Nostrand Ave business. They are working with the BID to organize clean ups, better signage, and encourage new businesses. They recently got a grant specifically for revitalizing the commercial areas of CH.
The Crown Heights North Association, in conjunction with local politicians, got a grant to administer funds to a company that has removed and continues to remove grafitti on buildings on Nostrand from Atlantic to well into Flatbush. This program cleaned up hundreds of tagged buildings, helping to improve Nostrand Ave.
Bedford Presbyterian has a program that encourages youth to clean up litter, and keep Nostrand Ave clean. The Bloomberg administration’s million tree project planted new trees all along Nostrand Ave this spring. Those trees will greatly improve the streetscape. The police closed several businesses that were dealing or allowing drugs and other illegal activity to happen in their spaces. These locations are specifically being targeted for new businesses.
We’re working here. It’s going to take time, but NOBODY who cares about this community is ignoring our surroundings.
I have a problem with the “element” no matter where they are, Cobble. I guess I would have to kill myself to avoid it because people who commit quality of life offenses are in all neighborhoods.
yeah rob, not only schoolkids but this is prime vacation time. After Labor Day, it’s gonna suck on the R.
“They really fucked up rezoning N Brooklyn – how can you add all that population density if public transport can’t support it?”
THat’s right DH. And not that I think services shouldn’t be given to poor people, but all these new developments that the City encouraged on 4th ave and elsewhere are populated by well off people who pay a lot of taxes. THe infrastructure should be improved, not squashed.
Ishtar, if you have no issues w drug dealing and think they should be legal, what will all those people who make their living off the drug trade do? That’s the part that concerns me most when we talk about legalizing drugs.

Rob, you talk like everyone here thinks drug traffic is hunky dory, or an inevitable part of life here. We don’t.
no way, i dont believe that all, what makes you think i think the whole neighborhood thinks it’s fine? im not that clueless as to think that.
