  1. rob, seriously, take the car and sell it before it comes here. You don’t have a license, you’ll need to pay sales tax on it when you register it (I think), insurance for a new driver is astronomical, and you will be overwhelmed by what it takes to own a car on a regular basis. The tickets you will get alone will eat up your inheritance before you know it.

And we’ll get to hear all about it on Brownstoner.

  2. snappy, I just knew you were sneaking into that Target issue! On that, I think it’s silly to boycott, big companies give money to a variety of causes, and what New Yorkers find offensive may be quite popular with the Target customer in Idaho.

Most other issues (BP for example) are just too complex to be met by a ‘let’s boycott’. For example, almost all BP gas stations are owned by individuals, not BP, and the gas they sell can come from anywhere.

I do try and support the American worker, or workers in countries that get paid the same that Americans do (Europe, Canada, Japan). To me fair trade is fine. Especially with clothing, don’t let see a dress that I wanna buy Mrs. D for Christmas that costs $1000 be made in China. No sir, it better be made here or Italy else I walk.

Unfortunately it will be a long time if ever before I buy another American car, management (not unions) have fucked me over too many times. But at least I know that my German car is made by well paid union workers.

I don’t buy into all this conflict-free diamonds and sustainable lumber and fair trade coffee crap. Cuz I don’t believe it. If all of these things actually were true, prices for preferred products would be considerably different. Why are there not two separate retail markets for conflict and conflict-free diamonds, for example?

I don’t invest in companies that annoy me either. Cigarette companies, defense contractors, Apple, and now Dell, I pass. Plenty of opportunities out there.

  3. quote:
Ugh – you can smell the cheap tween cologne wafting from the open door of Hollister in Soho for almost a 3 block radius. Absolutely disgusting.

    *rob*

  4. oh, I forgot. When I went to Yosemite Park, the smell of pine was overwhelming. It was amazing, so fresh and nice. The memory starts with the smell, then remember driving in the forest in a jeep. Wow. Forgot that.
