Re: OT, for some reason, the bike thread seems to provide the “food fight” entertainment the OT usually provides. I think that this NYC bike push is an assisine waste of money which makes it difficult for an already difficult traffic situation here. Big surprise, traffic is said to be reduced by 25% in speed around Prospect Park due to bike lines. Why is that news? And we have the same jerks swinging maces, bloviating aggressively in support of bike lanes, the bicyclification of NYC streets. Blah, blah, blah. So incredibly stupid. So sick of it.
If we left jury duty to just those who wanted to be on it, there would be a very small pool with the power of literally, life and death for the entire population. A sobering thought, hardly fair to anyone, especially plaintiffs. I think the effort to include everyone, no matter what one’s status in society is a good one, although obviously impractical for a lot of reasons. No one is ever going to have Mike Bloomberg or Derek Jeter on their jury, or another trial lawyer or judge. It’s actually harder, not for you corporate types, but the working poor who don’t get paid for not being clocked into their jobs. I’ve been there and have postponed my duty a couple times when I could, but always ended up serving. I’m also prime jury material, and have lucked out a couple of times when chosen to sit on a jury only to have the case plead out or settle, and I’ve sat on one case, when I lived in the Bronx.
Oh and I have jury duty August 9th. CGar, how many days did you “serve”? The last time I did this was years ago and I spent three days with a novel. It was for a dopey case where someone tripped on a sidewalk and sued. At the point of coming to trial, it was settled.
My porch repair project is now a semi-nightmare. I didn’t sleep much last night. The neighborhood guy who started the job, chopping up where the cracks were, uncovered a big repair job — he also had no clue how to match the color of the brownstone material correctly. (I have two sets of steps connected by a 6X6 landing.) We bought colored brownstone material yesterday. Late yesterday, he started to make a horrific mess; I stopped him and got a real brownstone guy today who would want 1800 dollars to do the patch job alone!! The real brownstone guy I got this am from Sol at Ace hardware who recommended him. He did offer to tell me where to get the perfectly colored, pre-mixed cement though so if I wanted to finish up with the cheapie guy, at least he would get the color right.
Some day I am going to have the entire surface of the brownstone redone but now is not the time. My goal was to do a patch job to prevent more damage next winter.
It is a great life — this brownstone gentry thing — if you don’t weaken.

ha. you could very well be right. i always thought it was random tho. honestly i would be a mess if i had to do jury duty as i cant sit still for more than 10-15 minutes at a time.

so is the OT broken or did MM do a threadkiller?
Making an intelligent and cogent statement can do that around here.

Looks like today’s conversation is centered on the bike thread so far. Typical! Any thread about bike lanes or Park Slope always gets the traffic.
Ugh. Rodents. Ratzapper.
