donna: Just because so-called ‘socialist’ countries have failed (almost always because they are also dictatorships) does not denigrate socialism as a value system. In essence it just puts more emphasis on the collective ‘good’ than on the individual ‘good’. Where you draw the line matters just as it matters in any economic system; few of the capitalism-uber-alles folk here would, I suspect, argue for laissez-faire capitalism (or do you?)
Similarly, a socialist system is fairer to the lower income folk, and if carried out rightly, does not lead to stifling innovation, soaking the rich, decay and doom.
