  2. “I think that even if we all come out a nice cafe au lait shade with curly hair and almond eyes, we’ll still find ways to discriminate”

In the ol’ country it was all about your accent. They way you pronounce words like aunt and France could mean the difference between getting the job and not getting it. Not that the word aunt comes up very often in job interviews.

  3. Legion, the fact that you can post a list of minority GOP’ers is proof enough that the GOP is not doing its job. Instead of a hundred names out of a nation of millions, there should be thousands. A GOP convention should look like the United Nations, not the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

I happen to believe that the Dems have gotten complacent in expecting minorities to flock to them, and in many cases Democrats who need to be removed from office because of inertia will die there because people will not vote for a Republican, because of all of the baggage the party brings to the table. The right wing nut jobs of the party have spoiled it for the rest of the party, and contributed more than their share to the general uselessness of the political process in far too many venues.

  4. I stayed with friends (had to think about whether to put quotes) in San Francisco one January. I was never so cold in my life. They didn’t have central heat and kept whatever they had on “keep the pipes from freezing” level. They gave me my own bathroom, towel, soap, but no food. This was in Berkeley which is suburbanish and not good if you don’t have a car. I swear to you, I had to ask if people were hungry and ultimately I offered to take people out to brunch (they had the car). I was cold and hungry the whole time. Was really mad. I am still “friends” but it is in quotes and you couldn’t pay me to stay with them again.

  5. “Hey lechacal, I see the good mood is holding, so I’m guessing D-Day is not too far off??? Any big August plans???”

I think I’ve told you what my last day at work is almost every day for the past month. Next Friday is my last day here. I feel happy and light and energetic. It’s like I’ve made parole and I’m just waiting to get released.

    Plans for August include:

    – Westfield Int’s Airshow in Western Massachusetts (F-15 flyovers – America, fuck yeah!)

    – Week on the cape.

    – Air and space museum in DC.

    – Other random stuff in DC.

    – Maybe stop in Philly to do dorky tourist stuff.

    – Maine? Maybe. Wife has never been there.

    – Farm in Vermont at least once, of course.

    – Work out like a motherfucker. Run a lot.
