Dave, over the years my daughter has always gone to school with Chinese kids of various stripes (Mando/Canto/Fuji, FOB and ABC, Malaysian, H.K., etc., etc.). Of course she’s Chinese too–she lived there until I adopted her at 23 months. So I know a bit about Chinese family life! Some of our best friends are Chinese!
To tell the truth, I don’t think he has told his parents about her. She didn’t tell me but I see what I see, and 1000 messages back and forth on AIM every day tell the tale.
I am white/Jewish/eastern- and western-european–my mother was born in Danzig and came here in 1939. My father’s family came in the early 1900s. My daughter grew up in Clinton Hill, now Bed-Stuy, and identifies strongly as Chinese-American. She’ll be at Brooklyn Tech which is 60 percent Asian, about half Chinese from what we saw on the tour.
The boy was either born here or came as a little kid, speaks perfect English, got into a good high school, but I don’t think his parents speak English. He accompanied them during parent-teacher conferences in middle school, so I assume he was needed to translate.
This is her first boyfriend so I am not exactly planning for the wedding. At least I hope not! She’s just 14.

I just realized that can be taken a couple of different ways!
Biff, as long as CGar doesn’t come between you and your pee.
And I went to school with Russell Wong’s sister.
Since CGar came between me and my “^^^^^^^^^”, what I meant was:
“Ask your wife what gao pee means!!!”
Gao pee is what I have to do when I drink too much beer.

“Fun fact: I know one of the actresses in the Joy Luck Club.”
A. Fun for whom, exactly?
2. More importantly, is she single and in search of a George Costanza wannabe?
