  1. “Having spent $700 billion dollars on a “stimulus” with nothing to show for it pales in comparison to this “hideous mess”.”

    I’m surprised that you would say that. Given that the “stimulus” “saved” so many big businesses, and the economy from being so much worse. It seems to me that a lot has been done, but…

    That said, I think that much more could be done, and republicans are blocking actual practical ideas. As an “unemployed slacker” sitting here picking my nose, I’m still waiting for job creation and praying that unemployment is extended so that I don’t end up completely broke in 6 months. I may take up a drug habit – do you recommend crack or heroin? The republicans seem to be living in some elitist wonderland where unemployment insurance is akin to welfare. And that is a horror and a real hideous mess.

    Benson, that bailout bailed NYC out else we would be like Miami, Phoenix, Vegas,….

    I’m not talking about TARP (which one could argue bailed out NYC’s financial industry) I’m talking about the stimulus funds.

    JB: OK, I started with the Hoover and then moved onto local projects 😉

  3. JB;

    I’m glad that it kept you employed, but the bottom line is: $700-$800 billion spent on – WHAT??? Any of us could easily come up with a list great prjects that were the result of the Great Depression’s public works project (when the economy was in far worse shape). The Hoover Dam, the Triborough bridge, the complete rehabilitation of Central ark, the Park and Central Park Zoo and the development of Marine Park, to name just a few projects lcoally from that time.

    It’s kept me in employed. Aren’t you folks supposed to believe in “trickle down”? It’s getting there…

  5. CH;

    Have it your way.

    Yes, having a suppressed highway “cutting off” Columbia street is such a hideous mess. Having spent $700 billion dollars on a “stimulus” with nothing to show for it pales in comparison to this “hideous mess”.

  6. Benson – I’ll add that both of these deals involve private participants – another thing I’d think you’d be in favor of that unfortunately delays the start of construction.
