On another note, BH was explaining LEEDS certification to me last night. I’m now firmly convinced it’s mainly a load of hooey. He was telling me how a certain building is in fact certified, but it’s energy bill is astronomical despite what was promised. Apparently, one can get LEEDS points for doing things that don’t actually lower energy usage but are still “green”. I was pretty surprised to hear this.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we bumped into each other. My formative years were the 70’s. Since I attended school at St. Simon and Jude on Ave T, however, I thought of my neighborhood as the section between Ave. U and Ave. P. I rarely crossed Ave P. In fact, the only time I went that way was to get my haircut at 5-star.
My wife’s best friend when she was growing up lived on your block. I think her name was Shelly Silver, or something like that.
I lived in the old neighborhood until 5 years ago. Now I’m in Park Slope.
Cobble, the piece was disgusting in that it was so smiley-face (like they wear his and her bathrobes…) and it WAS an infomercial. I am sure they are perfectly NICE. ;}

He thinks he can extend life well over 150 by preventing chromosome degradation.

“Ken and Barbie story on the 3rd and Bond thread is the most nauseating drivle I’ve ever read. PUKE!”
“But that was DISGUSTING…”
Wow, I didn’t think it was all THAT bad.
Self-serving on the buildings part, sure. But the couple seem nice and sincere. Yes, some of the copy sounded (badly) scripted, but it’s clearly a sales piece and not a natural interview!
I bet they’d be nice if they showed up at one of our gatherings.
benson,
Don’t mind sharing at all. After 21 years of living in Bensonhurst, I moved out of THE city; I was young and a tree hugger in the 70’s. I was still near A city, but the air was a lot cleaner. In the meantime, my brother bought a co-op in a converted warehouse in Brooklyn Heights, my sister moved to Park Slope, and on my visits home, I discovered a new and different Brooklyn than the one I grew up in. Fast forward to the present, and I am now in a place in my life where I am looking to come home. A journalist friend of mine lives in Cobble Hill and suggested I check out Brownstoner, which I read for many weeks before having the courage to post. Between business, friends, and family, I find myself in Brooklyn so much that it makes sense for me to make the move. So, I’m trying.

They would need to work till they are 110 to afford to live that long.
I say we kick Bennie’s ass! This in NYC, we stomp on the weak!
” it WAS an infomercial”
Agreed, it is an infomercial.

Good luck Bennie. Check out Kensington :o). You’ll be very close to Park Slope for half the price or even 1/3 the price.
