“I still think you are a lazy ass slacker who blames other people for your problems. I just want to make that clear.”

Thus invoking Donatella’s rule that PLUSAs can insult rob, but no one else can. Seeing the words “lazy ass slacker” typed out is quite funny.

    Did I say that? 🙂

  2. sure, sometimes rob is genuinely funny, like the other day when he said that it’s a good thing the guy with the nuke reactor wasn’t Muslim.

Other times, he seems like the the brownstoner mascot.

How many brownstoners would hire him in their business with their money? Should we get a poll going?

  3. dibs, I got one for you. This goes BEYOND unions!

I was talking to a contractor who does a lot of work for the board of ed. We were comparing notes on employees, and he has some ‘helpers’ he pays 9 bux an hour. If they’re good and stuff, they can move up, as he pays skilled mechanics 30 an hour, plus OT.

It takes a special breed to work for the b of e, especially cuz it takes anywhere from 6-18 months to get paid.

So in the context of $9 labor, he tells me he is required, when doing work for the b of e, to pay prevailing wage. So I say, what’s that, $12 an hour?

FIFTY DOLLARS an hour. Anyone who comes on the job, gets $50 an hour. The kind of work he does, usually requires a skilled mechanic, and a couple or three helpers. Everyone gets 50 bux.

Wonder why the b of ed budget is so high?

It gets better. You’d think they would want work done after hours, just on the chance of someone getting affected. No, they prefer that all work be done dureing school hours. You need a special permit to do work after 3PM.

And finally, you’ll be glad to know that the b of e is ‘going green’. Each order (and these are jobs that in the normal commercial world would be maybe 5k each) requires about 1000 sheets of paper of rules and certifications.

So they devised a new computer program just for contractors, to save paper. The program is so complicated that each contractor has to attend class to learn it.

My friend has figured out that the new program adds an additional 18 pages!

  4. I know what you mean, Rob. And I disagree – I think you have plenty of problems. BIG problems. No need for me to go into them. You describe them pretty much every day. But it’s your life, not mine. If you’re happy that’s all that matters.

  5. quote:

we have fundamentally different opinions on what a slacker is then. i’ll leave it at that. and im racking my brains out even trying to think of what major “problems” i have cuz i don’t see many of them, and i definitely really don’t see any major ones. whining about not being allowed into pier 6, complaining about the costs of newports, and hating on ridiculous lifestyle choices aren’t real world problems, just annoyances. I may be park slope’s resident hobo, but i still have it better than 99% of earth’s population.
